gym slip are a three-piece band based in Dublin, fusing the urgency of dynamic rock with the subtle deftness of metal.

gym slip were formed in Carlow in 1998 by cousins Jimmy and Murt. Initially growing to four members, the band quickly became known for its hectic mix of punk, metal, dub and countless other components. Due to a shortage of suitable venues at that time, their live show was honed at self-staged back garden parties and outdoor events in the town. A number of self-financed EPs followed, the most succesful being 2002's well-received Tommy Slot, sold through the band's website and at gigs.

Upon relocating to Dublin, gS found themselves streamlined to three members - Jimmy (guitar, vocals), Murt (drums), and Niall (bass, vocals). As a consequence, their sound became more defined, drawing from such influences as Hundred Reasons, Pearl Jam, Deftones and Queens Of The Stone Age.

In 2003, gS progressed through three rounds to the quarter-finals of the Music Matters International Band Challenge, their passage determined each night by crowd response. The band have played venues in Dublin (Temple Bar Music Centre, Eamon Doran's, Voodoo Lounge), Cork (Cypress Avenue) and their native Carlow (Scraggs, Sherrif Guevara's) during the past 2 years. Through their ties with the GigSmart organisation, gS have also played a number of shows in support of bands releasing singles under the GigSmart banner.

In March 2004, gS decamped to Trackmix Studios in Clonsilla, recording the seven tracks which make up this summer's CD release, crowrubbishempire. A number of two-track sampler CDs were pressed and handed out at recent gigs, meeting with impressive approval and feedback. The band will be promoting its release with a number of gigs in Dublin, Kilkenny and anywhere else with a stage.
